Is your hair flat, frizzy, or worse, both? Would you describe your mane as unmanageable? Is your do dull, dry and damaged? If you answered yes to any of these, there is some good news. Glamit has declared 2019 the year of the hair-do-over. A chance to stop messing with your tresses and treat your locks with love.

“This is the year to ditch products that contain harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulphates and silicone. Instead, opt for those that boost hair health,” says Glamit Managing Director, Inge Peacock.

She explains: “Parabens are a preservative that can be found in shampoos, conditioners, body lotions and face creams and while they may extend the life of these products, they also mimic oestrogen and reduce the production of this hormone in women which in turn increases the risk of breast cancer.”

“Sulphates are cleansing agents that attract dirt, oil and grime from your hair and scalp which is then washed away when the shampoo is rinsed off. In addition to stripping dirt from your hair, they remove all of the natural oils that keep it moisturised too, resulting in dry, tangle-prone tresses.”

“Silicone, which is frequently added to shampoos, conditioners, lotions, leave-in conditioners, heat protection sprays and masks, makes strands instantly smooth and shiny. The downside is that most cosmetic silicones aren’t water soluble so they build up on the hair over time, preventing the hair shaft from letting in enough hydration so, while the hair appears to be frizz-free on the outside, it will be parched and easily breakable underneath all that product.”

Fortunately, the Glamit collection includes products from some of the world’s best hair and beauty brands – including CHI, Balmain and Biosilk –all of which are paraben-, sulphate-, silicone- and cruelty-free.
Over and above Peacock’s call for consumers to pay more attention to the ingredients that are included in their hair care products, she advises using those that are best suited to their hair types for best results:
