I have only used two products from the Lipidol range and I was impressed, so when Lipidol dropped this off as a tester I was SUPER keen! I am not a sun bunny but lately I have been really really into protecting my skin from wrinkles, and everyone says the numero uno tip would be to USE SUNBLOCK EVERY DAY. Even if you aren’t in the sun. Go figure.

So this pleased me of course, to be trying a product that I actually want and need.

I am also pretty sure that the first thought to pop into anyone’s head would be ‘Sunscreen OIL?’ Isn’t that BAD for your skin’? And no, ladies and gents, your skin won’t sizzle up like a chunk of bacon. I do admit that I thoroughly read the press release AND did extra researching online before putting this onto my skin because I have always been so sure that oil was NOT meant for applying on your skin. And especially not if you are going into the sun.

The second though to pop into my head was ‘Will this make my skin greasy? And will it look funny if I apply my make-up over it?’

I decided to first use it on a day when I wouldn’t be wearing make-up, just to see how it felt on the skin and if I would have a bad reaction to oil being applied to my face for an entire day.

I knew to apply a minuscule amount because – if you have used facial oils before you will know – a little bit goes a long way! Literally two drops is enough for your face and the top of your neck (I always apply my facial products on my neck too). If you have used any other Lipidol Oils then you can compare the feeling and texture of this one to those too. It has the same feeling in terms of runniness and liquidy-ness (is that a word? Probably not).

The second thing I noticed was the smell! I went in a bit apprehensively as I had read a rave review on this product previously but the blogger noted that they despised the smell, but that the smell disappeared after only a few minutes. I personally loved the smell. Not just in a ‘it was a normal skincare product smell’, but I loved the smell. It contains natural plant extracts which is what its coloured with, and it is scented with cypress and basil essential oils. It honestly smells like one of those tiny little oil burner oils. The basil and cypress also aids in controlling excessive water loss and has an energizing and refreshing action.

The oil stayed on the surface of my skin and did not soak in and leave an oil residue as I expected it might.

My favourite part of all was when I washed my face at the end of the evening, my face was left feeling soft and extra nourished. This was definitely due to the oil because I washed my face with my usual face wash and my face was feeling healthier and plumper (in a good way!) than ever.

When I applied make-up over the oil, it definitely left a sheen to my face. I waited a good while before applying make-up over the product and I figured the only way to get around the product would be to LOAD up on setting powder, which I did, and lo and behold, oiliness be gone.

On both days of testing the oil, I did NOT have a bad side affect from using the oil on my skin. Please note that my skin is dry to combination so I can’t speak for any effect that it may have on other skin types. I have not, however, seen reviews on this where there has been a bad side effect or bad breakout.

The Sunscreen Oil aids against the usual things you would expect from a sunscreen; skin cancer, pigmentation, uneven skin tones and it also slows down the development of skin again before its time AKA wrinkles. EXACTLY what I mentioned above that I was looking for.

Lipidol states: “The Lipidol Sunscreen Oil protects against UVA and UVB rays, while maintaining good skin health by supplementing the skin’s natural oily layer stripped away by the sun, wind and water. Contrary to popular belief, the notion that sun is attracted to oil on the skin is untrue, and in fact the use of an oil-based sun care product is a great way to ensure your skin remains protected during South Africa’s hotter months.”

The entire Lipidol range is available at all Clicks stores nationwide – this Sunscreen Oil is R79.95

I have reviewed the Lipidol Overnight Facial Oil on my blog you’d like to check it out. Please bear in mind that it was one of my first posts ever and I am not too happy with it and the way it is set out (never mind the atrocious pictures). I am too embarrassed to even post the link – if you wanna see it, you are gonna have to search for it! 😀 😀 I have also used the Cleansing Make Up Remover Oil and I am a major fan of that one – it definitely rivals my much loved Micellar Waters.

Thanks for stopping by!

Let me know what your thoughts are on the product?
