This Sweet Orchid Monoi Body Oil from Elemis is currently my most delectable “treat yo-self” skincare product.

The most delectable of all is the scent. It is DIVINE. Obviously with a name like Sweet Orchid Monoi Body Oil you assume that this better have a great smell. And it does. It smells like you are about to go into, or just come out of, a massage. It just completely relaxes you and helps you unwind.

I like to call myself a bath person.  I love to draw a deep bath, throw in a bath bomb and some body oil, and soak for ages. But truthfully, after ten minutes, I get bored and agitated and need to get out. This is obviously what I used to do when we weren’t in the middle of a water crisis. However, pouring in a bit of this Sweet Orchid Monoi Oil definitely keeps me in the bath a little bit longer. You cannot help but just want to soak in it for ages and ages. The oil particles also leave your skin feeling soft and smooth to the touch. I used some in the shower about two hours earlier, as I type this, and I can still smell it distinctly through my pyjamas.

As I said, we in South Africa are dealing with a dire water shortage. So bye bye to the bathing. Fear not though, this can be used in the shower too. I like to take a shower first, hop out, and then rub it into my skin. The name has “oil” in it, but it really does not leave an oily residue.

The scent and ingredient list includes Tahitian Monoi Oil, Japanese Stone Orchid and Coconut Oil. I personally love the scent of coconut oil but I cannot get a hint of it in this product. I don’t see that as a downside at all though, as the actual Sweet Orchid Monoi scent itself is just so divine. Have I said that already? Maybe just three or four times..

I know that even with such a rave review, people will still worry about the oil factor. But rest assured, the formula is described as “rapidly absorbing, providing superior moisturisation for parched, mature or dry skin”.

You can get a look at the full ingredient list over at AbsoluteSkin’s website. The Sweet Orchid Monoi Body Oil retails for roughly R815. Since being exposed to Elemis, I have been really impressed and I look forward to testing some more products. Next up I have my eye on the Biotec Skin Energising Cleanser and the Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm.
