Okayyyy.. I know I said my highlighter and blusher “Favourites 2019” posts were difficult. But this post was REALLY difficult!

I tried so hard to whittle my favourites down. And it was just NOT happening. So I decided to let the make-up God’s decide and I thought about the lippies that were either A) a staple in my handbag or B) a lip product that I actually repurchased. Because lawwwd knows it is a rare occasion that I repurchase a product.

The gist of the situation was that every single product was a nude. Light punk, pinky nude, deep nude, light nude. Matte formula, satin formula, liquid formula and depotted formula. Nevertheless they are ALL nude Fifty shades of nude, if you will!

Backtalk from Urban Decay – R260

A comfort matte lipstick which truly is a comfort matte. Backtalk is surely one of the most iconic shades from the Urban Decay Vice collection and for good reason. It is wearable, long lasting and flattering on most skin tones. I also find the price tag of R260 extremely reasonable for a brand like Urban Decay. If you are looking to treat yourself or to venture out into the world of UD, then Backtalk would be the first shade I would recommend.

Freedom System Lipstick in 025 from Inglot +- R169

Oh wow, I went through such a major Inglot moment a few years ago! I have not purchased anything from them in ages but this lipstick in 025 is still a firm favourite. I do prefer the Freedom System concept far more than what some brands are doing these days where you buy a lip palette with predecided shades. The Freedom System allows you to put together your own perfect palette.

Velvet Touch Lipliner in Nougat Crisp by Gosh Copenhagen – R109

You clearly don’t need me to sell this product. You can tell how beloved it is from this picture. And just like the Inglot above, I went through a MASSIVE Gosh Copenhagen phase. Truthfully I think I own 7 or 8 lipliners and they are all great. Long lasting, comfortable, high pigmentation, soft yet precise. But Nougat Crisp is just absolutely perfect as a wearable nude for me. I will DEFINITELY repurchase.

Elizabeth Arden Lip Lacquer in Tulle – R299

This is hands down my most “easy to use” lip product. I am extremely precise and careful with application, who wants smudged lipstick? But this lip lacquer is pretty much the only “coloured” lipstick where I can apply without looking in the mirror. This makes it one of my most reached for as I am always in a rush or hopping in the car from one place to the next and I can leave this makeup application step for the car.

Iman lipstick in Babydoll – R184.80

Absolutely the most underrated brand on this list! And yes, I knowwww IMAN is difficult to get hold of (They used to be stocked in Stuttafords which has all but completely shut down, but a few pharmacies have IMAN stands). But if you can, buy lots of the things!!

The Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick range is just phenomenal. Long last, huge shade range, incredibly moisturizing and plush, everything you’d look for. I actually have a few shade reccs from this range, but Babydoll is a perfect nude.

Matte Lip Liquid in Windsor Rose from The Body Shop – R100

Another “throw on without looking in the mirror” option is this liquid lipstick from The Body Shop. These are somewhat spoken about among the SA beauty scene, but some people have no idea that they exist! And as far as matte liquid lippies go, these are my first choice.

The formula smells divine. They are creamy and very pigmented, and there are about 20 shades to choose from. I probably own 4 or 5 of these but Windsor Rose is my favourite. You can now access your The Body Shop make-up products in a few Clicks stores as they are slowly rolling out their make-up displays! I love when brands make accessing their beauty products even easier 😉

Velvet Teddy Matte Lipstick from MAC – R250/R130

If anyone is reading my blog that doesn’t know Velvet Teddy, I owe you R20. This shade is iconic in the make-up world. I would even go as far as to say this is the shade that brought back the “90’s lip”.

Velvet Teddy is truly one of those shades that suits almost every skintone (a rare trait among nudes). It is an absolute beaut. The colour payoff is opaque from the get go and the colour lasts roughly 3 to 4 hours.

This will be the first MAC lipstick that I ever finish..

And there you have it. My top SEVEN lipsticks for your enjoyment. I truly tried to narrow these down to 3.. and then 5.. and I landed on my 7 most used.

I am so close to the end of this “Favourites 2019” post. Please let me know in the comments if you have any requests? I have been loving the series and am happy to carry on if there are any genres that you would love to see.
