essence (spelt in all lower case letters y’know!) is known as being our most affordable and readily available brand in South Africa. They have a huge range of products and frequently bring out limited edition ranges known as ‘Trend Editions’.

Today’s review is on a longtime firm favourite of mine; the essence I <3 Stage Eyeshadow Base.

Lots of people forego buying any sorts of primers and bases for their makeup. This seems insane to me though.. why not buy a product when you know it is particularly designed to help your makeup last longer! In my line of work it is not unusual for me to apply my make-up at 7AM, work an 8 hour work day and then head straight to an event which means there is not a spare second to reapply my makeup. Therefore my technique is to always use primers for every part of my face possible.

People generally think that they help lay the base for your makeup and diminish the appearance of pores. This is true but when it comes to eyeshadow primers/bases the point is to lay a foundation to keep your eyeshadow set for longer.

It is super easy and straightforward. The formula is a medium consistency and all you do is apply it over your foundation before your eyeshadow. The formula is not wet at all which is great – some eyeshadow bases I have used it the past have been gross and wet and that does not make for a good canvas for eyeshadows.

I especially love that this is a nude coloured base because I suffer from discolouration in my eyelids and my veins are very obvious. This basically covers those right up as if its a concealer!

I have had this for over a year and it is still going strong, this is one of those miracle products where you only use the smallest amount and even that goes a long way. You get SO much product from one tube.

A home run for essence!

You can find an essence cosmetic stand in most Clicks and Dis-Chem stores.

Have you used this eyeshadow base before? Do you also love it as much as I do?
