If you have not seen me splaying it ALL over social media, then I don’t know what I’ve been doing wrong.
My mom finally started a blog! She has kept diaries her entire life. Literally. We have read her diaries from when she was 16 years old (possibly a bad idea?!) and she has kind of always been a writer. She has been toying with the idea of putting her memories onto paper (WordPress?) for ages now and she has finally taken the leap.
Her blog is called A Mom AWOL In London. If you follow me on social media – and especially Snapchat – then you will already know the whole deal;
She recently immigrated to England and plans to stay there for a good few years. In doing so, she left myself and my two younger siblings behind. My brother is in Grade 8 at boarding school here in Cape Town. My sister is 19 and lives at home with our dad. And I am 23 (deeear lawd) living with my boyfriend. My mom had a pretty intense life growing up and in some ways is still growing up. And her life is still just as crazy.
I have read my mom’s posts thus far before they go live. Because, believe me, there are some aspects to her life annd our family that I don’t think I would be too comfortable seeing slapped onto WordPress! And I am pretty surprised at how chilled I am with some the topics she is sharing.
She has outlined her childhood, her relationship with my father (the best guy ever) and her ex-husband (my ex-step-dad and father of my brother), as well as my sisters’ and my childhood (hippy child lifestyle, not by our father’s choice, and a lifestyle I cannot fathom now), her reasons behind the divorces and her reasons for leaving South Africa. This was a decision that was more than 12 years in the making. Now reading her adventures meandering around London, working in the UK, making friends, dealing with weather that she hates, already being scammed regarding money within her first week, being away from her 27 yeard old toyboy, is proving to be hysterical!
