So the day finally arrived. FINALLY.
Garnier’s Micellar Water has hit South African shores.
If you have been around my blog you will know that I have mentioned this product soooo many times. It is a cult favourite amongst beauty bloggers and it is a cult favourite amongst people who don’t have beauty blogs.
WHAT IS IT? Micellar Water has been around for more than 100 years and, to quote directly from the internet, ‘The formula is made of micelles, which are tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water.’
People are giving up their 14 step skincare routines in favour of using this liquid magic and a few other products. It literally clears away make-up – not smudging it like other face wipes and make-up removers would.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK? I can, obviously, only speak from my personal experience with this brand of Micellar Water and I would score it an 10/10 for how well it works. Honestly a full score. You may find yourself needing to use eye make-up remover if you are wearing heavy heavy make-up but generally you will have no issues removing foundation, eyeliner, mascara and face products such as bronzer and blusher.
You can use your fancy and expensive toner and make-up remover and still pick up make-up residue with this soaked into a cotton pad. Its also great for travelling as you don’t need to rinse it off your face – and no, its not sticky at all – and one bottle claims to give you over 200 uses. But I think thats lowballing it.
Its great for acne prone, dry and sensitive skin and it can also be used on the delicate under-eye area.
I tend to use this with two cotton pads but then I also tone and moisturise my face afterwards. Using Micellar Water as your ONLY skincare treatment is kind of seen as the lazy gals skincare routine, but at a push it will be good enough if its only done a few times. If I go more than one day without using this my skin literally craves it. It just feels so refreshing and replenishing and you can really feel the benefits of it.
I would DEFINITELY recommend you go out and buy a bottle from your latest Clicks store for R80. They seem to be sold out in a few stores already – so HURRY HURRY.
Honey, I really need you to give me a run down here. I want to get this but apart from it being able to remove makeup really well, what are the benefits?
You see – I wash my face twice a day with whatever the cleanser of the moment is. This always removes all the makeup on my face and leaves no residue – so why the need for the micellar water then if my usual cleanser already gets all the product off my skin?
Does the micellar water have other benefits as well? I’d opt for the alcohol version (blue bottle) because my skin is pretty oily and prone to breakouts. Maybe that’s because I don’t remove my makeup before washing it, ha ha! PLEASE give me something to convince me to buy this stuff. I stood in Clicks for literally 30 minutes debating it and eventually walked off without it because I couldn’t see the benefit – why is everyone so crazy about this stuff?
Hi Michelle! I think the reason the entire world has gone crazy for it is more reasons that this Micellar suits EVERYONE and less for how it suits a particular person’s skin. The Garnier Micellar, besides for removing make-up much faster than other make-up removers, hydrates and nourishes your skin and it contains no alcohol or soap or harsh chemicals and detergents (personally my top reason). Also, between the two bottles, you will find that one of them will suit your skin type no matter how sensitive or dry or oily your skin is 🙂 The water also removes all wax-based substances and sebum which lessens your chance of a skin break out. I personally use this every single day – sometimes twice a day! – but I would honestly say that if what you currently use is working for you and sounds like it does exacty what the Micellar Water does, then do not change it 🙂 But a friend of yours will probably by a bottle herself and maybe you can just borrow some and see for yourself 😉 xx If you do, let me know how you find it! xx
Just because the whole world is going crazy over it, I think I have to try it. Would you recommend using it before or after washing your face with a normal cleanser?
My skin isn’t awful but certainly not as great as I hoped it would be at 24. My pores can appear pretty big and sometimes my cheek area looks almost lumpy, and I constantly get breakouts on my chin. Maybe trying some miracle micellar water would help? Lol.
I would hope it would work! Or at least impresses you enough to keep using it 🙂 people use it in so many different ways but I prefer to use it BEFORE cleansing your face. Some people just use only this and don’t even cleanse or tone or anything after and I would NOT recommend that! And I totally feel you – at 22 I honestly feel like I have the skin of a 30 year old! :/
