A few weeks ago, when it was still gorgeous and summery, my friend and I decided to try out the new deli/small restaurant franchise that had opened up in Simons Town and Kalk Bay. They were both positioned in very tourist inhabited spots so we decided to get dressed up and be tourists in our own cities for once.
The overall vibe was very laid back and chilled but the cakes and treats on display looked like they came from a top notch restaurant! We sat on bar stools at the front of the restaurant which were right in front of gigantic open windows that overlooked the main road and the harbour. Basically the exact thing that you come to Kalk Bay to see!
Some gigantic caramel cupcakes and red velvet cake on display
I loved how the menus were made of recycled paper and we each ordered a passion fruit ‘Life Gave Us Lemons’ cooler which came served in lovely old fashioned jars. They were tangy and delicious – and would have been even better with a shot of vodka 😉 My friend also ordered a slice of Caramel & Chocolate Ganache cheesecake, a piece of fudge and a classic chocolate South African Romany Cream biscuit while I ordered a Chocolate Ganache Tart. I do not have a sweet tooth at all but my mouth is watering just from looking at these pictures again! The base was crispy and crumbly while the chocolate filling was smooth and perfectly melted in your mouth. I only managed a quarter of mine – as I said I am not the greatest fun of sweet treats – but I devoured the rest of it that evening.
We then decided to split a ‘Care 2 Share’ meal called The Bru – 4 Bruschetta slices served with a citrus topping and you can choose between three toppings. So I got Biltong and Olive Tapenade and Basil Pesto, Cherry Tomato and Parmesan Cheese while my friend got Basil Pesto, Cherry Tomato and Parmesan Cheese and Smoked Chicken, Avocado and Dill.
I can honestly say that if you like olive tapenade then this is FOR YOU. When I ordered it the waitress actually advised against it because apparently people usually leave most of it behind on their plate but if you know that you like an acquired taste and if you know you enjoy a tangy tapenade then definitely give this a go. I would recommend it as my favourite tapenade to date. I could probably eat this entire meal if all four had that as the topping 😉
The meal itself was very nicely priced. I think it equalled about R250 in total which is brilliant to have lunch in a tourist destination. The service was also on point, and the waitress complimented me and asked which lipstick I was wearing (LA Girl liner in Eggplant) so extra points to her.
I have added some pictures of my make-up and outfit. I have said this before and I will say it again; I have issues with taking photos of my outfit so do excuse the funny pictures 😛

Hahaha! I was about to say that you must pop in if you are ever in the area but I have heard that they changed their menu and took these off 🙁 HEARTBREAKING!
