Is your hair flat, frizzy, or worse, both? Would you describe your mane as unmanageable? Is your do dull, dry and damaged? If you answered yes to any of these, there is some good news. Glamit has declared 2019 the year of the hair-do-over. A chance to stop messing with your tresses and treat your locks with love.
“This is the year to ditch products that contain harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulphates and silicone. Instead, opt for those that boost hair health,” says Glamit Managing Director, Inge Peacock.
She explains: “Parabens are a preservative that can be found in shampoos, conditioners, body lotions and face creams and while they may extend the life of these products, they also mimic oestrogen and reduce the production of this hormone in women which in turn increases the risk of breast cancer.”
“Sulphates are cleansing agents that attract dirt, oil and grime from your hair and scalp which is then washed away when the shampoo is rinsed off. In addition to stripping dirt from your hair, they remove all of the natural oils that keep it moisturised too, resulting in dry, tangle-prone tresses.”
“Silicone, which is frequently added to shampoos, conditioners, lotions, leave-in conditioners, heat protection sprays and masks, makes strands instantly smooth and shiny. The downside is that most cosmetic silicones aren’t water soluble so they build up on the hair over time, preventing the hair shaft from letting in enough hydration so, while the hair appears to be frizz-free on the outside, it will be parched and easily breakable underneath all that product.”
Fortunately, the Glamit collection includes products from some of the world’s best hair and beauty brands – including CHI, Balmain and Biosilk –all of which are paraben-, sulphate-, silicone- and cruelty-free.
Over and above Peacock’s call for consumers to pay more attention to the ingredients that are included in their hair care products, she advises using those that are best suited to their hair types for best results:
Straight and great
Getting sleek, straight hair starts with CHI Luxury Black Seed Oil – a luxurious hair care experience with the ability to rejuvenate, revitalize and fortify hair for soft, supple and shiny results. One of the most coveted oils for health and beauty since the time of the ancient Egyptians, the essential fatty acids and antioxidants contained in Black Seed Dry Oil help hair stay strong and radiantly beautiful through any styling routine.
Girls with curls
People with curly hair should opt for products that help with hydration, like those in the CHI Argan Plus Moringa Oil range. Combining argan oil, moringa oil and CHI ceramic compound, this four-part luxurious hair care system infuses hair with vitamins, moisture and nourishing oils. This makes for a smooth, frizz-free finish and restored overall hair condition. The range includes a shampoo, conditioner, oil and masque.
The revolutionary silk-infused Biosilk Silk Therapy Original is best for wavy hair as this weightless leave-in replenishing and reconstructing treatment fills voids in the cuticle to create smooth hair, helps to prevent split ends and provides incredible shine.
Caring for and styling coily hair has never been easier thanks to the CHI Deep Brilliance Olive & Monoi Oil Optimum Moisture line. The rich, hydrating blend of olive and Monoi oils (made from coconut oil and Tahitian flowers) helps strengthen hair. As well as reversing damage and protecting hair from future damage. All products in the line provide superior moisture and reconstruction. This includes to textured and chemically-treated hair, whilst promoting healthy more manageable tresses.
As kinky hair is dry by nature, which also means it breaks easily, moisture is a must. Enriched with pure, organic argan oil the Moisturising Line from Balmain Paris Hair Couture is ideal for this hair type. Particularly as one of its key ingredients, Provitamin B5, works to improve moisture retention, hair elasticity and flexibility. It calms irritated and sensitive scalps, softens the hair and creates extreme shine. It also gives the hair an extra boost of vitamin B. This thhickens the hair and stimulates growth.
Colour-treated hair can feel dry and brittle, so it’s important to use products that not only restore moisture, but protect colour too. The CHI Rose Hip Oil Colour Nurture line naturally moisturises hair while keeping the cuticle closed and locking in hair colour. An added bonus? The range is naturally high in antioxidants and Vitamin C, therefore boosting vibrancy and shine for. Your colour will remain salon-fresh for longer.
A sensitive scalp can be caused by a number of factors including common skin conditions and infections. Physical irritation from scratching and harsh chemicals also contribute to this. The CHI Tea Tree Oil line can provide some relief with the combination of tea tree and peppermint oils delivering soothing benefits and, at the same time, removing impurities and excess scalp build up, balancing scalp oils, and maintaining ideal moisture levels.
