I was not old enough to enjoy the metallic make-up trend the first time around. As much as I love a good ol’ eighties themed party, and the chance to metallic-ize my face to my heart’s content, I am still slightly wary of it.
Thankfully, essence has made life easier for us, bringing out some banging new metallic launches as part of their Spring/Summer ’17 ranges. I was generously sent a few of the new launches but I want to chat about my absolute favourites today.
instant volume boost smudge roof mascara
As always, essence is hit and miss with their mascaras. This one however is a hit for me. I really really like it and it give a good few hours of wear before starting to lose the volume. I featured it on my Insta stories and got a lot of great feedback of other ladies loving it! The wand head is nice and long which allows you to target the lashes all the way in the corners of your eyes. You do lose volume after a few hours, but at this price I am okay with it! prismatic hololighter stick
This hololighter is soooo freaking amazing. Besides for the incredible packaging that I want to just stare at forever, the product itself is awesome. It is not metallic, but it’s sheeny effect still fits in with the metallic theme. It reflects back at you in all shades of blue, white and purple with some intense shimmer. You get a fantastic payoff, but it only lasts around two hours. On top of that there is only 6g of product in the tube. But the formula itself is so great that it still makes it onto this list. And the name just kill me! It is called be unique be a unicorn. PRICE TAG: R79,95
metal shock lip paint
This lip paint that I received is the most stunning colour ever if you have hazel eyes. The colour literally makes your eyes appear green. There are five shades is total – this one is mercury – and this is definitely the most demure of them all. If you are big on more “out there” colours then you are sorted with this range. The payoff is bright and pigmented with a sheeny/semi-matte finish. essence desccribes it as a “light concentrated lip cream”. Another bonus of mercury is that I think it will suit everything from pale to dark skintones – I think it is one of those rare universal tones. PRICE TAG: R69,95
metal chrome blush
This metallic blush stood out to me the second I opened the box! I die for popping blushers and highlighters and in all honesty, this is more of a highlight in my opinion. It is such a brilliant rose gold chrome effect. It does need a bit of a top up after a few hours but it is GORGEOUS. With affordable powder products, it is very hit and miss and I was worried about the consistency of this. However it is the least chalky item ever. It is silky and high pigmented. I just adore it. I can see myself slathering this on in Summer! It comes in three shades: my name is gold, rose gold, copper crush and the beauty and the bronze. Th one pictured is my name is gold, rose gold. metal shock eyeshadow
The metallic eyeshadow originally was not going to be included in this faves post, but upon using it more I just had to add it in here. I am using the shade supernova which is a very unique grey forest green hybrid. I tried it a few times and I found it to be quite patchy but after a few uses I got into the gist of using it properly. Out of all the new launches, these shadows have THE most outstanding shades! I have my eye on stars & stories as well as 1 second to mars.
And that is the end of my favourite picks from the latest essence ranges! I do have to point out that their new releases of nail products, especially the metallic stuff, looks out of this world. I just am soooo not a nail person so it would be unfair to feature those here. A few other interesting picks that I will definitely consider purchasing are: correct to perfect cc multi-benefit pearls, correct to perfect cc powder palette, strobing and contouring palette, fresh & fit awake make-up and the brighten up! banana powder. Actually no, I will definitely be buying the banana powder.
essence is available at Clicks stores, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, on Takealot.com as well as selected Pick ‘n Pay, Foschini and Red Square stores.
