My review on the Drops of Light range from The Body Shop has been a long time coming. And I mean, like, more than three months in the making. I don’t think I have ever tested a skincare range for such a long period of time before publishing a review on it.

This is another of those posts where I wish I had a Youtube channel. I have SO much to say regarding this range and I tend to babble on, so hopefully this post comes together sounding semi-coherent. I have also had so many ladies requesting a review on this range, so I hope I have managed to answer all the questions.

The Drops of Light range is the most recent range to be released at The Body Shop and it is just one of those ranges that women of all ages can appreciate. Because seriously, at what age does a woman stop caring about a bright and fresh face?

I tested out three of the products from the range. The Drops of Light Brightening Serum, Cleansing Foam and the Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel. Out of the entire range I was SO keen to test out the peel. I had never used one before but I have heard so many rave reviews on The Body Shop’s peels. Here is what I thought…

Drops of Light Brightening Serum

I think overall, ladies were most excited for this product in the range. At R275, it is the priciest item from the range but it is the most raved about. You will be hard pressed to find a negative review. The list of benefits is a long one and I am pretty sure you will be raring to try it after reading it! The list includes: instantly brightening your skintone, leaves your skin plumped up with moisture, reduces the number and overall look of dark spots, skin will appear smoother, healthier and translucent with regular use.
It can be used night or day and I prefer to use it at night. Letting it sink into my skin while I sleep and waking up with a clear and fresh-faced skin.

Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel

As I said above, I was beyond excited to test this out as there are so many rave reviews on the Body Shop’s peels. I was unsure between testing the Vitamin C range and this Drops of Light one, as I adore their Vitamin C range overall. Anyway, I went for this one and I literally used it the same day I purchased it.

The way you use the product is unique. You cleanse your face and then apply two pumps of peel onto your dry skin. You rub in small circles all over your face until it forms clumps (about twenty seconds). If you take a look at the clumps, they are dark in colour. This is because you are removing impurities directly off of your skin. The peel is suggested to be used two to three times a week and you should see an improvement in skin texture and brightness from the first use. Now, moving onto MY honest review.

I used the peel on a Saturday and all good. I noticed a positive difference after the first use and I was chuffed as anything.

BUT THEN…

Four days later, on the Wednesday, I was showering and, whilst washing my face, my face felt SO weird. It was covered in bumps and I was so confused but because I was so exhausted I had forgotten all about it when I jumped out the shower. The next day as I started putting on my face for work, I noticed that yes, my face was REALLY covered in bumps! HUNDREDS. And I am not even exaggerating a little bit. There were hundreds. So I covered my face in make-up. You could obviously still see all the bumps if you came close enough.

I showed everyone at work and they all assured me that you definitely could not see the bumps.  BUT if I made you come super close to take a look, you could. It was literally my entire face from my forehead to the sides, down my nose and all over my cheeks and chin. I started getting freaked out because I have never had a bad reaction to a product before. Yep, I have the most non-sensitive skin you will ever find. Okay I may have had a bad reaction before but nothing springs to mind. And this was just full throttle craziness.

Anyway, I made an Instagram story about it – without mentioning the brand – and thankfully a few ladies replied and straight out asked me if it was a peel from The Body Shop. Apparently a few other bloggers who I don’t follow on Instagram had also had bad reactions and documented the situation on Insta.

Drops of Light

I decided I could either try it one more time or just give in and return it. I decided to leave it for a few days and see how long my bad reaction lasted. It lasted for three days and it literally disappeared in one go, not in little increments. So I decided I will give it another bash and use it again. And what do you know, guys? NOT ONE LITTLE BUMP. I am now using it three times a week and it will probably stay cemented into my skincare routine for ages. It has become one of those products that I will always recommend to someone looking to brighten and even out their skintone.

The Liquid Peels all contain Alcohol Denat, which I can only assume is why my skin reacted the way it did – it was probably acclimatizing. I never went in store to query the reaction as it never happened again so I am not too worried. And at R200 – R225 per Liquid Peel across the board. I cannot wait to get my hands on one or two from the other ranges.

Drops of Light Cleansing Foam

Lastly is the product I was least keen for. And only because I always find foaming cleansers to be ever so slightly squeaky on my face. Does that make sense? Almost as if your skin is too clean. I know it sounds crazy but I do have friends who agree! The ingredients in foaming cleansers can leave your face feeling really tight afterwards, when you really want a plump and soft face after cleansing.

The Drops of Light Cleansing Foam however, is slightly squeaky on the skin BUT it is definitely my preferred Cleansing Foam of choice. Also, when a product says you only need a pea sized amount, I generally use double. This product however goes a long LONG way. Less than a pea size will lather into a gorgeous foam with more than enough to cover your face and neck. And at only R150, it is a steal!

Drops of Light

I have been using the Drops of Light range for going on four months now. At this time I can honestly say the range is one of my favourite skincare choices of all.

Have you tested out the Drops of Light range? What did you think of it?
