I received the Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector from Avène (sent for review via rubybox – sign up today!) and I have used it seven times over the last nine days.

First off the Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector really intrigued me because it is only available in two textures; light and rich. However, the light is for normal to combo skin. Whilst the rich is for dry skin. I have dehydrated and non-sensitive skin, so this was the best option for me.

Originally I thought the Light colour was too dark for me and would possibly oxidise around my jawline. However, looks can be deceiving and it blended in beautifully with no oxidisation at all. It was ever so slightly too dark for me as I am basically transparent. But it still worked well enough to review and I can use lightening drops in the future if need be.

Skincare for dehydrated sensitive skin

The Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector is formulated specifically for dehydrated and sensitive skin. I have not got sensitive skin but damn, I do have dehydrated skin. You can definitely feel the hydration in the product while you are applying it on your face. It feels very serum-like. If I had to liken it to another product, it would be the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation.

The packaging does state that this can be used mixed in with a serum, but I really do find that it is silky enough and doesn’t need that extra addition. However, it would totally depend on your skin type if you would benefit from this.

It unifies the complexion using transparent mineral pigments to reflect light and coloured pigments that adapt to your skin tone and blur imperfections, for naturally radiant skin. Mattifes, blurs fine lines and blemishes.

It also has a really divine scent. Really fresh and summery. You can definitely pinpoint the SPF smell in there. Due to this, I don’t apply to product past the underneath of my eyebrows. I don’t have sensitive skin but I have had reactions to SPF in my make-up before.

If you check out some reviews online, you will see this compared to BB and CC creams. It generally gets between four and five stars per review, too. My favourite aspects of the formulation would be that it contains antioxidants and it hydrates. This is thanks to the added lipomucine, meiboserine and pre-tocopheryl. Pre-tocopheryl (what a mouthful!) contains Vitamin E which protects you from free radicals.

You can see when it is blended in, it is pretty much spot on my skin tone.
Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector
Gorgeous as ever with no make-up. I have a very dull skin-tone with quite dark discolouration around my eyes.
And ta-da, magic! I have edited both images with the same filter – one that brings out dark shadows, so you can see in the before exactly where my problem areas were, and in the bottom picture you can compare the area with the product on. This is also without powder, setting spray or concealer.

When using this, I don’t set it with powder. Even though it is hydrating, it does NOT leave you looking oily. Literally, not at all. I try and stay away from powder as much as possible but sometimes I’ll need some on my chin and forehead. With the Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector I really did not need any powder to set it down. It definitely has that “sinking into the skin” vibe and I find it applies best with a duo-fibre buffing brush. Using your fingers to blend it in gives the slight feeling of fulling at your skin. This gives you a really radiant finish and you can always throw on some concealer if you need the extra coverage 😉
