Of course you have already seen this freaking fantastic daily superfoliant from dermalogica. And if not… I have nothing more to say to you except read on and find out why this tub has the beauty world abuzz!

Superfoliant

The original daily microfoliant has become an absolute cult product among beauty lovers. So what is the deal that makes the superfoliant superior to the beloved microfoliant?
Most noticeable, it is now enriched with activated charcoal (which gives it the different colour) and this is the main ingredient in purifying your skin. They have also thrown in a whole load of extra-specials to help free radicals, inflammaging and removing the top layer of dead and dull skin.

The original microfoliant would close your close your pores, leaving you with a flawless looking face. The new superfoliant however opens your pores, allowing all the nasties to leave your skin.

dermalogica’s goal with the superfoliant was to give your skin the needed ingredients to fight off biohazards and biochemical that are floating around in the air without us seeing them. I have seen quite a few brands going this route now in helping to fight pollution of the skin, but I am pretty sure that dermalogica did it first. You would be gobsmacked if you see the stats and figures of all the horrendous chemicals that are mixed in with the air that we breathe 24/7.

Something most people don’t even think about is all the nasties floating around which we just can NOT see with our eyes. The ingredients in the superfoliant fight the pollution triggers which in turn lead to premature aging (major struggle of mine).

This highly-active resurfacer delivers your smoothest skin ever. And helps fight the biochemical and environmental triggers known to accelerate skin aging. The advanced powder formula activates upon contact with water, releasing powerful enzymes, skin-smoothing alpha hydroxy acids and anti-pollution technology. Activated Binchotan Charcoal purifies the skin, helping to adsorb environmental toxins from deep within the pores, while Niacinamide, Red Algae and Tara Fruit Extract help guard against the damaging effects of pollution. Not recommended for users of medically-prescribed exfoliation products. Formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens.

The key behind this charcoal infused product is not to deeply exfoliate your face. The rice based powder is aimed towards brightening and smoothing the skin gently. You will be gently removing the top layer of debris (which dulls the overall look of your skin) and it evens your skin tone out. One thing I greatly, GREATLY require in a skincare product is the ingredients that even out your skin tone. I have probably mentioned this in close to every single skincare blog post over the last year. Ever since I turned 22 (I am turning 24 in August, lawd above), my skin has taken the oddest turn for the worst.

A mistake I was making with the original microfoliant is that I was using it so sparingly. I still achieved noticeable and beneficial results. But I was so in love with it that I wanted it to last forever. Thankfully the superhuge size of the 57g tub makes it less traumatic on my heart to use the proper amount. The require amount is half a teaspoon. Lather it into a thick foamy consistency and then applied all over the face whilst avoiding the eyes. I use this down my neck too, as I do with every other skincare product. Even if it is not meant for your neck.

Superfoliant

The superfoliant is developed as a daily product (the clue is in the name) but if you have extremely sensitive skin you’ll need to use it on alternating days until your skin acclimatizes to the product.

Your price point is R1,180 for the gigantic 75g tub. You can find the product already. Yes, look at me being super late with this release. The superfoliant hit shelves in mid-March and you can find it on Sorbet shelves. Or directly from the dermalogica website here. If you decide to pop into a dermalogica store, I suggest the Wembley Square store and ask to deal with Natalie if you have any skin concern queries while you are there!

And lastly, I am leaving you with this uber cool app, a Skin Pollution thermometer if you will. As you can see, todays forecast in Cape Town is a moderate risk of accelerated skin aging, but that is generally NOT the case. Doesn’t it just make you want to wear one of those old school full body dive suits and stay in doors forever? Or maybe take a bath in a tub of superfoliant…
