My dear friend Cara and I did a teeny make-up/skincare/hair care swap a while ago and this little dermalogica Daily Microfoliant dudey was among the amazing things she gave me. My first reaction was ‘YESSS’ because dermalogica is quite expensive and I don’t frequently buy it for myself.

So usually when I am planning on using a product that I want to review on my blog, and a product which I know almost nothing about, I Google it before hand. I Google what the website claims it will do for you and I Google real people reviews. Not some crazy huge blogger who has probably been paid to say they like it, but I go to maybe page 9 or 10 on the Google results.

This little one claimed to be a gentle, daily use exfoliating powder for all skin types. It has a unique rice-based powder formula which, upon contact with water turns into a paste that releases Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter. Our unique Skin Brightening Complex helps to balance uneven skin pigmentation while a super-soothing blend of Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal helps to calm the skin, leaving it clear and refreshed. Gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colours.

Now. I liked the idea behind it. Its different to me. I have my fair share of skincare products and the ‘powder to paste’ formula is not a common one amongst brands that I use.

It does not foam up immensely but, because it is obviously difficult to get photos of the product on your hand and face AND take a photo, I only took a photo of it on my hand. The first image is before adding water, and the second image is after adding about a tablespoon and kind of squishing my hand together in an awkward one handed fashion.

It definitely is not as ‘scrubby’ as I had hoped. I personally prefer a very harsh exfoliation but that, of course, is just a personal preference. I would say its more of a ‘buffer’ to get the top layer of grime off.
You are recommended to massage it onto your face for one minute and – as usual – avoid the eye area. I actually got a faint bicarb of soda smell from this product but nothing bad enough to turn you off the product.

The result that stood out the most to me – compared to what the website promised – was that my skin was looking and feeling smoother and brighter.
If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times; I am only 22 and therefore I should have youthful and radiant skin, but alas, I have tired and worn out looking skin. If this can give me the same result with each use, I will be VERY excited.

Now the bestiest part about this product would be that on small tub will clearly last you ages. I used, maybe, half a teaspoon and I got an entire face’s use out of it. This sells in a tub of 75g but mine is 13g so I am not too sure if it used to be available in smaller sizes or if this is a great sample size.

The worst part would be the price. At R850 for 75g it is pricey, but then again, how many half teaspoons can you get out of a 75g tub? A LOT! So it will definitely last you ages.

Its obviously meant to be used daily (the hint is in the name!) but I would probably stick to using it around four times a week and alternate it with a deeper cleansing and more exfoliating scrub.

Have you used this before? Do you think it is worth the splurge?!
